A Tribute to Scott

The back story

The client request

After Scott’s death in late 2021, his family and friends came together with the intention of hosting a gathering of his community to mourn his death and celebrate what he had achieved in life.

His immediate family and close friends came to the New Narrative team wanting to create a tribute that reflected his love of music, close-knit bonds with family, and gave his community a chance to gather together to mourn his death and remember his full, vibrant life.

Planning

The process

The first meeting was held at the family home where, over the span of three hours, Scott’s family and selected close friends shared stories, evoking laughter and tears in equal measure. During the meeting, lead planner Christina was present, listening to these stories, taking notes, and painting a picture of Scott for suggesting creative ideas.

We knew this event would draw a crowd, so a large venue that was accessible was key to planning. We decided on Sky Hangar, a working helicopter hangar, which fit with our budget and held significant meaning to his family.

Over the span of four weeks we worked with Scott’s family to organize the self-supplied food and bar service, decor, live streaming, and several performances from Vancouver-based bands.

On the day

Celebration

The celebration of life went off without a hitch. New Narrative was on site to guide and direct family volunteers who helped set up tables and chairs, set up the cash bar, and sound check all of the performers ahead of time.

During the ceremony, friends and family were able to be fully present for the heartfelt stories, the music, the custom slideshow, and to hear the very first performance of a piece that Scott had arranged himself.

The ceremony was live streamed for guests who were unable to be present in person.

Vendor spotlight

From the guest book

Christina and the New Narrative team pulled off a feat of love, laughs and community. From the venue to the decor to the itinerary, everything was on point.
