Gathering to Remember Jacob

Radio Host • Husband • Psychobilly Aficionado • Friend

Background

Jacob’s wife called New Narrative in July of 2022 asking for planning help. She wanted to gather Jacob’s close friends and family in a tribute that felt truly representative of him and his zest for life.

Jacob was the host of Zorch Radio and a dedicated partner at a well known coffee shop. His love of movies (especially 80s slasher films) and Ma’Ono fried chicken was going to be at the forefront of his event.

New Narrative was contracted to assist with: Venue Sourcing, Event Planning & Coordination, Slideshow Creation, Live Streaming, and custom printing.

Planning

The process

The event was planned over the course of two months. New Narrative was contracted to source out venues, collect photos & videos, create a streaming link, and help Jacob’s family and friends create an interactive installation with all of his radio posters, Zines, and extra Zorch Radio merchandise.

The day before the event, our team helped Jacob’s wife come up with the idea of a Merch Table - an area in the bar where guests could take a tshirt, poster, zine, or one of many stickers that were at the house. Now, guests could have an artifact of Jacob’s to remember and keep forever.

On the day

Celebration

Over 100 close friends and family gathered at the Benbow Room to pay tribute to Jacob, enjoy fried chicken, and listen to heartfelt reflections from his family and close friends.

A rotating slideshow of photos appeared on 48” screens as past Zorch Radio episodes were played over the loudspeakers. Guests were invited to take a quarter from a jar to “Enjoy a Game on Jacob” in the arcade at the back of the venue.

Toward the end of speeches, Ma’Ono brought out some delicious Fried Chicken for guests - one of Jacob’s favourite foods.

Vendor spotlight

From the guest book

Everything was beyond what I could've imagined, and it turned out to be so perfectly true to Jacob.

I laughed and cried and remembered all the wonderful times we had with Jacob, and for that I'll be grateful to you for the rest of my life!

- A. Robson Nuss, Jacob’s Wife
